Sup size question

Hi,

When the wind is too light for windsurfing I like to go out on a sup board. At the moment I have a 10'6 fly air. I find this board very allround, nice on flat water, but also for catching some waves. I mostly sup on lakes/flat water and am looking for a faster board next to the 10'6. the 10'6 will be used for waves, but I also want a board that gives some more speed (and range) on flat water. For these conditions I am looking for the Fly Air Race, but I can't decide on the size.

The board will be used in lightwind conditions on flat water. My weight is around 65 kg. Should i go for the 14 or 12'6? For width the 29 seems best because it will be used for cruising/touring and not so much for racing.

Glad to hear you like the 10'6" - I think you should try to get the Fly Air Race 12'6" x 29" - one of our best sellers and most sold Air Race board in our line - super easy to handle and very quick! and the extra width is not bad as you can let friends/family use it too, without problems!

It's been a few years since I bought the Fly Air race 12'6" x 29. I mostly used it a few times a year and always store it dry and inside my house. The board still looks fine, but I was wondering if it is getting too old and needs replacing because of age. I read that an Isup has a limited lifespan and hope you can tell more about that. The board still looks fine, but I don't like the idea of having to swim to shore because the board blew up. Is there a risk that the board suddenly bursts or can I just keep using it if it looks fine and holds air? Or are there signs to look out for?

Hi Pieter,

Obviously the iSUP business is still fairly "new", so very long term forecasts of durability are always a bit difficult to quantify 100%. However since most of the raw materials and construction processes are similar to Zodiac/Inflatable boats, which are built to last for up to 10yrs+, there should not be too many warranties if the board is kept in good shape. Check the seams, but the Fly Air Race is a premium construction and price, so it should last longer than some of the more simple and cheaper SUP's on the market.
