Hi Recently I've forgotten (and lost) on the beach the stock fin (38cm) of my wife's 112 gecko (2016 hrs is 73cm wide), so I've to replace it with a new one. Considering her weight (53kg) for 164 cm of height, her level of windsurf (planning with harness and straps) and that the sails she sails are mostly from 3.7 to 4.7 I'd like a recommendation for the new freeride fin length. Thanks
Hi there, generally I always advise to not go much more than 2cm bigger or smaller than the supplied fin, as the tail width does not support much bigger/smaller fins. So maybe go for a 34/35cm fin in this case as max smallest size. For sails that size you should maybe also consider going down in board size too?
craig ti Craig I agree with you about the smaller board for these sails but she needs the extra volume (width better said) because she is starting with the water start and the tack in choppy water is easier on a wider board. She doesn't sail as frequently as she would like and her progression is slower than it would. Step by step. Like we own a 107*66 litres freewave board which can be combined with the Gecko, I'll go for a 36cm freeride fin that maintain the comfort and confidence of the Gecko with the possibility of sailing something smaller and more appropriate. Step by step. Thanks a lot Craig
ok, sounds like you know best there, more width always good and easier for sure, especially in chop/for tacking, 100%. Good luck then!
thanks a lot By the way I'm in love with my FW Stubby 85¡¡¡¡¡¡ Range, confort, control, ... fantastic board
Good wind
nice to hear, my wife's favourite too, I love that board in onshore wavesailing too, non-stop planing and big jumps& even landed a 360 with it, blasting, huge range of use!
