Board advice for the kid

Hi
My kid who is 10 yo (11 at the end of August) needs a short board.
He sails in techno class and he can sail short boards (harness, front straps easily and back not so but progressing a lot, fast tack and firsts water starts)
I'm thinking that it's the moment for his own short board and I've several options on the 2nd hand market
1st option, the gecko 98 hrs
2nd option, something more expensive, FW Stubby 2018 95
3rd option. FW Stubby 105 litres. (2018 too)
I'm not considering the 102 ripper because it's too wide (69cm) and he doesn't need so much volume and if he would need something bigger in a precise moment he could sail some of our boards (107 Tabou 3S or Gecko 112)

Hi there, how much does he weigh? I think a FreeWave would be good, actually I would go pretty low on volume, even down to 85? max 95, unless he is already really tall/heavy for his age?

148 cm and 41 kg.
I (happily) own a 85 FW Stubby and he could ride it whenever he would want. He tried it once and in spite of he could sail it he didn't feel really comfortable. Nowadays 85 would be a bit small for his confidence and progression. As I told before he can sail it whenever he wants in the future.

SilverSurfer aha, ok - then I would for 95 FW - my kids went from Viper-Ripper-Gecko-Blast/FreeWave/Skate more or less in that order and from bigger to smaller....FW usually better allrounder for them than the Gecko in smaller sizes which may be too "straight line oriented". On the other hand, the Gecko is the absolute perfect board for learning gybes and planing etc, but then you'd need to update it sooner or later...guess you can do that with the Gecko 112 you already have?

So, there will be many boards for the kids, try to ask the kid what style of riding you want on the board. Your 50% of the problem is solved. Now turn towards the size and get the board that fits.
