Hi,
I am 180cm, 93 kg was windsurfing in the past ( two years ago stopped, never owned a board so roughly would say 100hours last 10years of windsurfing basic level, no beach/water start, no harness ) - decided this summer to invest buying and have some fun.
A good friend loaned me his Shark 150 ( 78cm width ) to test before buying a new board. I bought a 6.5 simmer style enduro 2020 sail with 430 mast and all the rest ... unfortunately after three long days trying wasn’t able even to go up on the board :-( wind conditions ranging from 3m/s to 6m/s. Trying couple of weeks ago on an old Mistral 180L with 4.8 sail was able to start for a while even with a strong wind for my level ( was 15m/sec ) for couple meters couple of times. But such a big board is not an option for me since will not fit inside my car and was hopping to get something to be able to evolve a bit in the future. My plan is to practice windsurf three times per week for 3-4 hours each time until September if will find a suitable board. So here comes my question...
My question is if the Gecko HRS 156+ with dagger board would be a good fit to bring back a smile in my face and have fun ? Will the extra 7cm width ( 85cm of Gecko compared to 78cm of shark ) be sufficiently helpful for my case ?
If above answer is yes I would appreciate your advice as well if it is worth buying a smaller sail for example a 5.9 with same 430 mast or even smaller 5.4 with smaller 400 mast?
Many thanks for the help !
