Thx I read it.
Still thinking the 78. I just have never has a big wave board that I loved in the Gorge. We get swell here at some launches when it's light like 5.3, but it is mostly B&J. The 85 FW STB TXT is a blast for B&J in light wind and can take my 5.7 Legend just fine. I think I could get by on 85 STB, The Mamba 78, and Grip 68 here. The more I sail the 68 Grip the more I really like it. The Mamba 78 could, “POSSIBLY”, bench my 76 Grip which has been by far the best “Gorge Board” I have owned since I bought a place here in 1992. I can’t imagine selling that board. I do have 2 spawn starting the sport although slowly.
I’m also gonna start winging. That may be the sport to get my 13&15 YO teenagers on the water.
This is my question:
Have you any reports of folks wave sailing the Mamba 78 with 5.0-5.3 at my 70 kg weight?
I was thinking using also for the occasional Maui trip board (salt water). My 76 Grip can hold a 5.3 but is a bit Top heavy. It’s best 4.7-3.5. I had a Stubby 77 and it seemed to comfortably hold 0.5 meter larger sail comfortably than the 76 Grip. The Mamba is a bit bigger and 1cm wider than the replaced Stubby model.
Thank you for all the great gear.
I have owned dozens of small wave boards that haven’t worked well in the Gorge. I was reluctant to ever try a Grip but, in 2018, the 76 Stubbys were sold out and I needed a board. What a pleasant surprise.
THX,
Kurt
