Hi,
I open this discussion because I don’t know which size of Gecko I should buy.
About me: I’m 35, I weigh 75-80 kg, my height is 1.85m. I started windsurfing as a complete beginner a few years ago. I’m using the harness, but I don’t master the water start yet, and I’m slowly learning to get planing. So far I’ve used mostly large beginner boards with a daggerboard, but now I feel confident enough to use funboards (I know how to go upwind, and I don’t drift). Last August I tried a 2020 Gecko LTD 133 board (with light wind and almost no chop), and I felt so comfortable on this board that I decided to buy one.
My question: I intend to buy a HRS Gecko (not LTD), but I’m wondering which size is right for me: 122, 135 or 148? On the one hand, I practice in northern Brittany only, where the sea can be quite choppy, so a larger board seems better for stability. On the other hand I use rather small sails (up to 5.5 or 6, can’t handle larger ones), and a large board might be too big for my sails.
I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks a lot in advance,
Olivier
