Good morning all!
I'm here with my begging bowl to ask for advice. I don't know anything about windsurfing, I'm a kayaker at heart. But my OH went on a few courses and enjoyed them. We now live by the sea and I'd love to get him some beginner equipment for his birthday (which is on Christmas day).
I don't want to buy new- if he uses it sufficiently and gets back into it then I'll upgrade him another year.
We live in Alderney, in the Channel Islands. It's pretty windy here, and we have strong tides, but he can sail in the protection of the breakwater (I see people out there sometimes). He's 5'5 ish and slim, I'd guess 80-90kg. He's got radios, buoyancy etc from sailing.
Could I please ask:
What size/displacement board should I be aiming for?
Is a daggerboard essential?
I found the following available locally: "Fanatic board 256 x 55. 100litre displacement. 5.25m mast, boom and two sails. No dagger board. Not sure what else would be required to be used. Comes with soft board bag/case. Come take a look as not sure what size the sails are. Make me an offer near £80."
(Pic shows a board with Fanatic Mega Ray ?! and sails saying Neilpryde on)
Is this any use? It appears to be the only one locally but if it's no use at all to a relative beginner I'll rethink.
Thank you in advance for your kind help <3
