Small Falcon vs jag fin sizes

Hi Craig,

My question is about the fin sizes the slalom guys use vs the fin size of similar freerace / freeride boards.
Why is It so common that the pros on the falcon 97l x 62w use a 32 fin.
While the jag 94 x 61w & the blast 100 use a 34 fin.

Or alternately, they use a 36/37cm fin on the falcon 115 (71.5 wide) vs a stock 38 on the jag 108 (69 wide)

Is it because one of these? :
-The fanatic pros are always super powered up when using the small and medium slalom boards

The slalom course is always downwind a bit
the super expensive carbon race fins can be used in a size smaller?

Should a more average sized guy (80kgs) using the 97 falcon recreationally, moderately powered up on a 6.3 use a slightly bigger fin than 32?

Hi there, yes it's mainly because they are riding super powered up, have a lot of skill/the need for absolute top speed outweighs needing any lift in lighter winds vs a Blast or Jag.

But I would not take much bigger than 32 on the Falcon. Remember with the extreme cutouts, there is also less area there, so a bigger fin can actually push the nose of the board down. Makes more sense on a Jag/Blast where riders are mostly underpowered/using sails with less lift/less focus on absolute top speed and yes, downwind courses have a big influence too on fin size.
