Falcon 99 fin size - figure 8 slalom underpowered.

Hi Craig,

Just looking for some fin guidance for my use case.
75kgs. Wave gear + 6.5 & 5.5 freerace sails & a fast freeride board. Im on the 6.5 from 18 knots.
Im looking at getting the falcon 99 to replace the 100L freeride board for local casual racing.

I know the pros use the falcon 99 in 30 knots with a 32 fin on the downwind W course. While The 94 jag, 61 wide as has a 33cm fin.

So, considering I'd be using the 99 falcon at the very bottom end of the wind range compared to the test riders. what size fin for a figure 8 longer distance slalom course? Would I go up to 34cm, because I'm going slower and pointing higher with less lift. Or use at 32cm because I can't push as hard on the fin as the pros. So 32 works even though it's not as windy?

Hi M.H,

Fin size also depends a lot on weight and skill - you are 20-30kg lighter than most of the top pros, who only sail downwind courses, extremely overpowered. Ideally the 32 should be big enough, since your sails are relatively small with 6.5/5.5, maybe a 33cm if you can't make the figure 8?
