Jag 2022 vs. Jag 2023.

Hi Craig,
Could you please elaborate on the differences in shape between the Jag 2022 and 2023? Since I use my 2022 Jag 108 and 125 with Finish First fins already I would like to find out if it is worth changing to the 2023 models. The fin change alone really boosted the boards giving them much better control and topspeed so I am wondering what else has changed.

Hello. Sharing concerns with Henrik, I am also interested in a little more clarification about new Jag. Looking at 110L model. Comparing to previous model, it got even wider, making it very close to Falcon in terms of geometry. The question is, will the new shape “compensate” such changes in terms of maneuverability, ability to keep efficiency with non-cambered sails, wide wind-range use? How much of “free” gone from this freerace board? Will really appreciate a bit deeper insights about new 2023 Jag models.

Hi Both, so we did add a bit of extra width and slightly bigger cutouts - I would say in combination with the Finish fins that the 2023 models feel a bit closer to the Falcon than before, however still retaining all the great qualities of the older Jags - but with a good injection of performance. I'll ask Jordy to add a few comments on the shape differences/his experiences during testing - as I only rode the prototypes briefly myself this time - Daniel Aeberli and Jordy Vonk did most of the testing/R&D.

Hi Guys,

The 1cm wider makes for example the Jag 110 closer in geomatry to the Falcon 116, but this of course does not make the board less of a Freerace board! The base concept of the board is really different and therefor still very good to use with no cam or 2 cam sails like some people are used too. And yes, the Finish Fins really boost the performance of the board!

I think all small changes (little wider, different deckshape(touch lower masttrack), little touch on cutouts) together really made a big step again in performance, improving the general trim of the board on straight line, while still gybing as good a before.

For you as a pro- and Fanatic testrider these small changes may make a difference but for us (me for sure!) mere mortals I wonder whether we are able to really notice them. So my question still stands: Since I already upgraded my 2022 Jags 94, 108 and 125 with Finish First fins, do the changes for 2023 result in such an improvement in performance that it would make it worth for me to go for the new 110 and 128? (As I understood the 94, fin aside, remains unchanged.)

Henrik Hi Henrik, one thing Fanatic is pretty well known for - we never bring new shapes just for Marketing purposes, our testing is always very controlled and the previous model is always included at every stage of testing, to be 100% sure the newer version is better in almost every aspect - otherwise we simply leave the shapes for as long as we can/until we can improve them - see boards like the Gecko, Blast, FreeWave or even our Grip, running for 3-5yrs?

So yes, you should be able to feel the difference too! :-)

It will be exciting to try the new Jag.
According to presented numbers looks like it will give a serious fight to professional slalom boards.
What is a bit unclear yet, what would be a wind range for 94 and 110 for an average+ level 77kg rider? What are recommended conditions for new Jags? Do they deal better with chop?
I have 5.4 E-Pace, 6.0 S-Pace and 7.3 S-Pace, will it work for winds 20-30 knots?
And the last one, what would be a recommended fin for 25+ knots conditions for that choice of sails?

Shuras Hi Alex, new boards will deal well with chop yes, rocker is a bit lower than the Falcons/cutouts are smaller so they ride a bit flatter and more control.

it's always hard to give a 100% recommendation on the sail sizes, as rider styles and conditions are so different. But roughly:

94 - probably ideal size is around 6.0 and then 1sqm on either side.

110 - ideal size 7.0, 1sqm on either side of that. So in theory 94 best for you if 6.0 is your most used sail. But typically I would think the 110/7.3 might be the most used setup or?

For 25+ knots on the 94, the standard fin should be fine. For the 110 in 25+, probably a 36cm size?

Shuras no worries, as mentioned it's always a really rough estimate. 5.4 to 7.3 is pretty hard to find one board which will match all three....so usually best to look at time on water with each sail then rather.

craig Craig, I usually ride on fin board on 22+ knots wind. Before wind picks up really strong, Falcon Foil is the toy of choice. So, frankly I am looking for a fin board for a medium-strong wind. Previous one was Blast 115 - I had a fun up to 35 knots on it with 5.4 sail. I thought Jag 110 would be a good advance for more speed and control.

ok.....for medium strong should work, plus sounds like your skill level is fine as you are riding a Falcon Foil - so Jag should be the step up you are looking for from the 66cm wide Blast, touch wider and for sure faster.

Hello Craig and Jordy. Looking for your advice for a fin to be used on Jag 2023 110L. On wind conditions over 20 knots I feel that supplied fin (Finnish Fin v2 that is great by the way!) is a bit too much - I am loosing a control (board starting to fly too much) on strong gusts. Would it make sense to have 35cm or even smaller fin for strong wind conditions? What would be your advice in order to keep enjoying my brand new Jag 110L for wind stronger than 25 knots with a decent chop? I use S-Pace 6.0 2023 and it works perfectly up to almost 28 knots. Shuras Hi Shuras, sorry for my late reply! Yes a 35cm would fit perfectly for your 6.0 and 110 jag. Of course every fin has its limits, at one point 37 will be too big!

The 35cm Finish Fins V2 is surely the best option as its similar to the fin you have in terms of feeling, just smaller with more control of course.

Hello Shuras, I have the same experience. The 37 fin is to big in strong winds and decent chop (Jag 110 + 5.8 e-pace sail). I have solved this 'problem' with a Select S1-Pro fin 35 cm. Works much better for me. I think the Finnish V2 / 35 cm would also fit, but is a little bit more expensive solution.
